FORTHCOMING EVENTS IN PORTUGAL
1) Cíclo de Sessões: A Arte de Traduzir…
No âmbito do projecto de investigação sobre o mapeamento cognitivo dos tradutores portugueses, vai dar-se início a um ciclo de sessões “A Arte de Traduzir…”, que tem por objectivos não só conferir maior visibilidade social e profissional aos tradutores na sua qualidade de embaixadores culturais, aproximando-os dos seus leitores, mas também de possibilitar a todo a comunidade (estudantes e académicos da área da tradução e demais público interessado) observar mais de perto como os tradutores encaram e exercem a sua actividade, como resolvem os problemas com que se deparam, como tomam decisões, quais os seus hábitos de trabalho e os mecanismos do seu pensamento.
Com periodicidade mensal, sempre na segunda quarta-feira de cada mês, entre as 16h00 e as 18h00, na FCSH, as sessões contam com a presença de um tradutor das mais variadas línguas que partilhará com os presentes alguns dos aspectos mais concretos do exercício da sua profissão, desvendando facetas da sua arte.
A primeira sessão do ciclo, a ter lugar na FCSH (Auditório 2, Torre B, 3º Piso) a 9 de Outubro, entre as 16h00 e as 18h00, intitulada “A Arte de Traduzir Lao Tse (Tao Te King) e Chuang Tse” conta com a presença do seu tradutor, António Miguel de Campos, que nos vem falar da complexidade de verter dois clássicos da literatura chinesa para Português Moderno e de como essa demanda pode alterar um percurso de vida. Ou dito de outro modo: de como um engenheiro chega à tradução.

Journal: Translation Matters:
Vol 2. No. 2 (Autumn 2020): Special issue: Translation under Dictatorships
Deadline: 28 February 2020.
Submissions are invited for a special issue of Translation Matters on the subject of Translation under Dictatorships, and seeks to attract specialists who will make a serious contribution to scholarship in the field. While it is expected that many of the submissions will be concerned with translation under the Portuguese Estado Novo, the Call is by no means restricted to this reality. We are also interested in general or theoretical reflections about translation under censorship conditions, as well as individual case studies from different geographical and temporal contexts.
Articles, in English or in Portuguese, should be 6000-8000 words in length, including references and footnotes, and be formatted in accordance with the guidelines given on the journal’s website.
